The Shoes I End Up Wearing Most

There’s usually a pile of shoes by my back door that tells the story of what kind of week we’re having.

Muck boots if it’s been raining. Slip-ons kicked halfway under the bench. Hiking shoes sitting in the car because I forgot to bring them back inside. House shoes that absolutely were not supposed to leave the house but somehow ended up at the grocery store anyway.

I used to think I needed shoes for every outfit.

At this point I mostly just want shoes that are comfortable, hold up decent, and don’t make me regret wearing them halfway through the day.

These aren’t all the shoes I own, but they’re the ones I keep reaching for over and over.

The House Shoes That Somehow Became Outside Shoes

These are probably the most embarrassing shoes on this list because they started as house shoes and somehow became “wear them literally everywhere” shoes.

They are ridiculously comfortable.

The padding is thick, soft, warm, and honestly better than some regular shoes I’ve owned. I wear them around the house constantly, but I’ve also absolutely worn them to the grocery store a few times because I just did not feel like changing shoes.

Once shoes become that comfortable, it’s over.

The only downside is they don’t last forever if you wear them as much as I do. But honestly I

already knew that going into it.

Still worth it.

The Barefoot Shoes I Wasn’t Sure I’d Like

I wasn’t fully convinced about barefoot shoes at first because some of them honestly look a little strange online.

But these ended up being way more comfortable than I expected.

The wide toe box makes a huge difference if you’re on your feet a lot, and they’re super lightweight without feeling flimsy.

They almost feel like wearing nothing, which sounds weird until you actually try them.

I also like that they don’t make my feet feel squeezed by the end of the day like regular sneakers sometimes do.

Definitely one of those things I understood better after actually wearing them awhile.

The Black Sneakers I Rebought After Ruining the First Pair

I originally had these sneakers in a lighter color and completely ruined them in the mud one year.

Which honestly was predictable.

I liked them enough that I bought another pair, just in black this time because apparently, I finally learned my lesson.

These are easy to throw on, comfortable, and don’t hurt my feet even if I end up wearing them all day.

They’re also one of the few casual shoes I own that still look decent after being worn a lot.

I’m officially at the age where I care less about trendy shoes and more about whether they survive normal life.

The Sandals I Wear with Long Dresses

These are the sandals I wear the most during warmer weather, especially with long dresses.

Mostly church. Sometimes town. Sometimes both, if I don’t accidentally destroy them first.

I love these sandals.

They have good arch support, they’re actually comfortable to walk in, and they don’t have that stiff uncomfortable feeling some sandals do.

I was honestly worried the strap around the big toe would annoy me because stuff like that normally does.

Somehow it never has.

I also like that they look nice without feeling overly dressy or fussy.

Which is important because I am not wearing uncomfortable shoes just to look put together for two hours.

The Flip Flops That Don’t Destroy My Feet

Most flip flops either:

  • rub blisters

  • flatten out immediately

  • or make your feet hurt after twenty minutes

These don’t.

They actually have cushioning and arch support, which makes a bigger difference than I realized when I was younger and willing to suffer for cuter shoes.

Now if shoes hurt my feet, I’m simply not wearing them.

I also like that these are easy to throw on without feeling cheap or flimsy.

They’re probably one of the easiest pairs to wear during summer because they work for pretty much anything casual.

The Muck Boots That Have Been Through Everything

I got my muck boots for my birthday probably three or four years ago now, and they have absolutely been put to the test.

Mud. Rain. Wet grass. Cold weather. Random messes outside.

They’ve held up through all of it.

They keep my feet dry, they’re comfortable enough to wear for a while, and they’ve honestly ended up being one of the most useful pairs of shoes I own.

I will say my calves have gotten a little chunkier over the years, so they fit a little snugger than they used to.

But I can still wear them comfortably with jeans tucked in and they don’t bother me at all.

That honestly says a lot because tall boots can get uncomfortable fast.

The Short Muck Boots I Slip on Constantly

These are easier to throw on than the tall version, so they probably get worn even more.

Especially on wet mornings or days where I know I’m going to end up outside a lot.

I love that they just slide on easy without fighting with them.

They’re comfortable, warm, and still holding up really well even after being worn hard for a long time.

I also think these are the more practical option if you don’t want a full tall boot all the time.

Sometimes you just want dry feet without committing to knee-high boots.

The Hiking Boots I Wear for Long Hikes

These are the boots I wear when I know we’re going to be out hiking awhile.

Not the “walk a cute little trail for twenty minutes” kind of hiking either.

The kind where your feet will absolutely hate you later if your shoes are bad.

I’ve worn these through mud, rain, rocky trails, creek areas, and long days where we ended

up walking way farther than originally planned.

They’ve held up really well.

One thing I noticed pretty quickly was how much difference good ankle support makes once you start hiking longer distances regularly. These feel supportive without feeling stiff or heavy, which is probably why I keep reaching for them.

I also like that they actually grip the ground well instead of feeling slippery on rocks or wet trails.

And most importantly: no blisters.

At this point in life, shoes either cooperate with my feet or they don’t get worn again.

What I’ve Learned About Shoes

The shoes I wear most are usually not the trendy “perfect outfit” shoes.

They’re the ones that:

  • feel comfortable immediately

  • hold up well

  • work for normal days

  • don’t hurt my feet

  • get thrown on without thinking too hard

I’ve also learned I’d rather have a few pairs I genuinely wear all the time than a closet full of shoes that look nice but never leave the shelf.

And honestly, if a pair survives years of mud, gravel, weather, and me forgetting to take care of them properly, they’ve earned their place by the back door.
